Bull, Pine, & Gopher Snakes

Found throughout the United States and Mexico, Pituophis is a genus of non-venomous colubrid snakes commonly referred to as gopher snakes, pine snakes, or bull snakes depending on the subspecies. These large, heavy bodied snakes are fairly docile and ready rodent feeders which make them good captives, especially as a starter species or first breeder project. Sometimes exceeding 8 feet, Pituophis are usually white or yellow in color, with brown, black or sometimes reddish colored blotches and dark brown or black bands on the tail.
