What does FloraFauna do?

We're a marketplace for highly-specialized (and oftentimes, rare) plant and wildlife products. We're the happy marriage of home-grown goodness and high-tech! Buyers are able to purchase products from diverse, quality-guaranteed, and trusted inventory. To vendors, we provide the latest merchant technology by offering a full-suite e-commerce shopping cart system, and the latest tools in shipping, analytics, inventory management, and payment processing— all with a few clicks of the mouse.


We love your logo! Which creatures are represented in the logo?

The rare tropical pitcher plant, Nepenthes Attenboroughii is on the left, and a reticulated gila monster (Heloderma Suspectum) is on the right. The logo was designed by our very own graphic artist, Mursalim Sapara, who hails from Indonesia.


How do I install FloraFauna?

FloraFauna is 100% web-based software. This means there's no installation required and it works with all operating systems (including Windows, Linux, and MacOS)! We host FloraFauna so you don’t have to worry about installing, upgrading or maintaining any software or web servers.


What do I need in order to start buying?

Just create a FloraFauna account :-)


What do I need in order to start selling?

If you’re already a user, upgrade to a vendor account. Otherwise, just sign up for a vendor account immediately.


If you’re new here, just sign up for a vendor account. You’ll also need either a credit card, paypal, or other electronic payment account for verification.


Which countries and currencies are usable with FloraFauna?

FloraFauna is currently only available in the United States, but we’re working on expanding soon! 


Which languages are supported?

Currently just English, but we’re expanding soon!


Where can I find tutorials and guides?

FloraFauna is currently working on a project to solve this detail.


What methods of payment can my customers use?

Most FloraFauna store owners accept credit card payments but you can offer more options like paypal, etc. FloraFauna integrates with many different payment processing services, and more are being added all the time. 


What is a merchant account?

Every payment made with a credit card involves the transfer of funds to a merchant account, which a merchant (that is you) holds directly with a bank. The merchant has full responsibility for the transactions that occur with their account, and each bank has its own terms of service to which account-holders must adhere. If you want to accept credit card payments through your FloraFauna store, you will need either a merchant account of your own or the services of a third-party payment processor like PayPal (see below).


What is a payment gateway?

A payment gateway is a service that authorizes credit card payments and processes them securely with a user’s merchant account. Often, a merchant account and payment gateway are set up in one process through the same company.


What is a "third-party payment processor"?

A third-party processor such as PayPal lets you accept online payments without a merchant account of your own. Instead, they let you use their merchant account under their own terms of service, usually with very little setup required.


Can I accept funds manually?

Unfortunately no, all transactions are online in order to protect both our buyers and sellers from fraud.


What do I do when I get an order?

After you get a new order notification by email, RSS, or mobile text message, you would log in to your account and check out the details screen for that order. If you need to get more information from your customer, you can send them an email right from within FloraFauna. Then package up the order, send it to the shipping address provided, then mark the order as shipped within FloraFauna to keep track of things. If your payment processor is set up to separately authorize and then capture funds, you have control over how much money is transferred after the order is placed and you can follow best online business practices by only completing the transaction when you ship the order.


Can I get someone else to take care of shipping?

Yes! FloraFauna integrates with fulfillment services just as with payment gateways. Right now we support UPS and Fedex for realtime shipping and will be adding services from more companies in the future. Just send a bulk shipment every once in a while to your fulfillment provider, and FloraFauna can let them know whenever an order comes in that they need to ship.


How much does FloraFauna cost?

A FloraFauna user account is completely free. FloraFauna vendor account is also free to setup, as well as the unlimited listing of inventory.


How can I purchase a product?

You will need either PayPal or a valid Credit Card to make a purchase on the FloraFauna website.


How do I get billed as a user?

As a FloraFauna user, you'll be billed immediately after purchase depending on how you paid (Credit Card, or PayPal). 


How do I get paid?

As a FloraFauna vendor, you'll be paid within 3 days of the buyer recieving the product.
